Louvre Abu Dhabi is the first unique museum in the Middle East. A museum that brings together different arts to shine and shared stories of humankind.
Designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the museum in itself is a work of art before you even get to any of the paintings. By walking through the pathways you will see the sea beneath the museum’s dome, composed of 7,850 metal stars arranged in a complex geometric design. When sunlight passes through, it creates a moving ‘rain of light’ a beautiful and ever-changing light effect rooted in the region’s flux of shade and light
The original Louvre in Paris and thirteen French museums have come together to lend artworks to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, together to form part of the permanent collection and for temporary exhibits.
The museum galleries tell the tale of humankind through 12 inspiring sections. Each section emphases on shared themes and ideas that reveal common connections throughout humanity. The works on show range from primeval artifacts to contemporary artworks. Beside the ancient artifacts, you will also see photography (including the first known picture of an Arab veiled lady) and many more well-known works by artists including Leonardo Da Vinci, Giacometti, Gauguin, Magritte, Mondrian, Pollock, Rothko, Van Gogh and many, many more.
Louvre Abu Dhabi also hosts four temporary exhibitions per year. As part of the unique collaboration between Abu Dhabi and France, they will be organized and created by 13 French museum partners, exclusively for visitors.
